The druid said: “I’m a screenshot”

The natural systems context of the druid’s minim “I’m a screenshot” sharpens when three constraints are made explicit: (1) there is no external observer, (2) all that appears is a user-friendly analogue of an unfriendly digital substrate, and (3) each appearance is one quantum in a continuous run that locally functions as guide and control—what is called con-sciousness (con-scientia, “knowing-with”).

Start with ontology. Under Procedure Monism, reality is not composed of enduring substances but of quantised interactions—discrete energy events under constraint. These events do not present themselves directly. The underlying “instruction stream” (energy quanta, contact events, constraint execution) is non-intuitive and incommunicable in its raw form. What is available is a render: a compressed, analogue notation that is legible, stable enough to be shared, and actionable.

That render is the “screenshot.”

A person, an object, a scene—each is a momentary status representation of the system: a bounded frame extracted from ongoing dynamics. It is real as output, but reductive relative to the generating process. It is user-friendly analogue standing in for user-unfriendly digital execution.

Now remove the last refuge: the observer. The one “seeing” the laptop is not outside this mechanism. The viewer is another rendered state, another screenshot. Hence the limit condition: a screenshot processing a screenshot. There is no subject receiving an object; there are only state transitions within a single system: frame → frame → frame.

Crucially, each frame is not isolated. It is one quantum in a continuous screenshot run—a serial update of representations. Continuity is not a substance but the temporal stitching of discrete frames. This run has function: it orients, selects, predicts, and coordinates action. It is a Guide & Control System.

Locally, that running series is interpreted as con-sciousness: con-scientia, “knowing-with”—the system co-registering its current state with its next possible states. The feeling of “I am aware” is the system’s internal readout of this ongoing representational update loop.

Thus the minim is exact:

“I’m a screenshot” =
I am a
current, communicable analogue of deeper digital activity;
I am one
frame in a serial run that guides and controls behaviour;
I am not the process, nor outside it;
I am the system’s
present notation of itself,
and the one reading it is
the same kind of notation.

No substance. No hidden operator.
Only
rendered states, updating rendered states,
carrying forward a continuous, usable fiction of continuity called consciousness.
